Import Shopify Products and Collections
If you run a Shopify store, your product and collection pages are the pages you most want ranking - and they're the ones a sitemap is worst at describing. Connecting your store pulls them in directly, with their titles, images, prices, tags and SEO fields attached.
Two Shopify connections, and why
You may already have Shopify connected as a channel (under Connections on the domain page). That connection publishes blog articles to your store. It cannot read your products.
That isn't an oversight on our side. Shopify permissions are fixed at the moment you approve them: the blog connection was granted permission to read and write store content, and there is no way to widen an existing approval to cover the catalog. Reading products needs its own approval.
So a store can have both, and most will:
| Connection | What it does |
|---|---|
| Products & collections | Reads your catalog so you can pick pages to target |
| Shopify channel | Creates, schedules and updates blog articles on your store |
| Social channels | Publishes the posts we generate |
They're independent. Connecting one doesn't change the other, and disconnecting one leaves the other working.
Connect your store
You'll create a small app inside your own Shopify admin and paste us its access token. It takes about two minutes, you only do it once, and the permission you grant is read-only — we cannot change anything on your store.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps. If you've never opened this before, Shopify asks you to Allow custom app development first — a one-time confirmation.
- Click Create an app and name it something you'll recognise later, like "Parasite SEO Poster — catalog".
- On the Configuration tab, next to Admin API integration, click Configure. Search for
read_products, tick it, and Save. That single scope covers both products and collections. - Open the API credentials tab and click Install app.
- Under Admin API access token, click Reveal token once and copy it. It starts with
shpat_. - Back in Parasite SEO Poster, open your domain, find Shopify products & collections, and paste the token along with your
.myshopify.comdomain.
We check the token against your store before saving it, so you'll know immediately if something's off rather than at your first sync.
The most common mistake: that credentials page shows three values — an API key, an API secret key, and the Admin API access token. Only the last one works. If you paste one of the others we'll tell you which one you copied.
Shopify reveals the token only once. If you lose it, uninstall and reinstall the app in your admin to get a new one.
Connecting is an admin-level action in your workspace.
If you deleted the app in Shopify
The connection stops working, and we'll mark it disconnected on the next sync. Your imported pages and everything generated from them stay exactly as they are — create a new app and paste the new token to resume.
Sync and import
Sync catalog pulls your products and collections in. Nothing is imported as a target page yet - this just fills the catalog so you can browse it.
Browse catalog opens the picker. Filter to products or collections, search by title, handle, product type, vendor or tag, tick what you want, and choose Import.
Imported items become target pages on this domain, queued exactly like pages picked from a sitemap - so atomizing, generating and campaigns all work on them the same way.
Very large stores are pulled in batches. If your catalog is bigger than one sync covers, we'll say so and the rest comes in on the next sync. Collections are always fetched first.
What you can't import
- Draft, archived, or unpublished products. These have no page on the web, so there's nothing to rank and nothing for the Atomizer to read. They stay visible in the picker, greyed out, with the reason - publish them on Shopify and re-sync.
- Items already imported. These show as already imported rather than being importable twice.
Keeping it current
Re-run Sync catalog whenever your catalog changes. Titles, prices, images and SEO fields are refreshed; anything you've already imported keeps its target page and the link back to the product.
If the connection stops working — you deleted the app, or changed its permissions — we mark it disconnected rather than failing quietly, and your imported pages stay untouched.
Do you need it?
No. You can add product URLs by hand or from your sitemap and everything works. The connection saves you the guesswork - and it's the only way to see, up front, which products are actually published and worth targeting.
