Pinterest

Pinterest works differently from every other connected platform, and it's worth reading this page before you rely on it.

Pinterest is a search engine, not a feed

Pins are discovered through search and browsing, not shown to followers the way a feed post is. That means the description's keywords matter more than posting time - descriptions are written keyword-forward, leading with what the reader gets and naming the topic explicitly, since that's how Pinterest surfaces a pin in search. No hashtags - Pinterest doesn't use them the way other platforms do.

Pins also have a much longer shelf life than a typical social post - commonly 3–6 months of ongoing discovery, not hours.

Every pin needs a board

Unlike other platforms, Pinterest requires every pin to be posted to a specific board. Before you can publish to a connected Pinterest account, set which board it should pin to:

  1. Open the domain's Social channels drawer and find the connected Pinterest account.
  2. Enter the board ID in the field shown there and save.

Posting to Pinterest without a board configured will fail with a clear error pointing you back here.

What makes a pin clickable

A pin's image only becomes clickable through to your page because of Pinterest's dedicated destination link - a URL simply appearing in the pin's description text does not make it clickable. Whenever the app publishes to a connected Pinterest account, it automatically attaches your source page's URL as that destination link, so the pin correctly links back where it should without you having to do anything extra per post.

Media is required

Pinterest doesn't support text-only pins - every pin needs an image or video attached. It also doesn't support carousels or multi-image posts: exactly one image or one video per pin.

Content style

Ideal description length is 40–150 characters, up to a 500-character hard cap.

Posting frequency

Pinterest supports the highest posting cadence of any connected platform - several pins a day comfortably at the Aggressive tier, reflecting how differently pins are consumed compared to a feed-based platform.

Inbox support

Pinterest doesn't have a comment-thread or direct-message system the way other connected platforms do, so it isn't part of the Inbox.

Connecting

Connect a Social Channel - then don't forget the board ID step above before your first post.
